Due to the current worldwide Covid-19-situation we decided to postpone all internships planned for 2020. We made that decision to insure the best possible safety for the children, teenagers and employees at our organisation in Nepal as much as for the safety of our volunteers.

Volunteers support the local staff in various tasks, such as supervising the study time, practicing English with the children, and organising games, drawing workshops, and sport activities. Each volunteer contributes with his/her individual talents, own ideas, hobbies, and knowledge to the work in the children home. Furthermore, an internship at Self Help Nepal is a unique opportunity to experience living in Nepal and meeting local people, to learn about the Nepali lifestyle and traditions, including festivals and holidays etc.

A volunteering experience with our organisation usually lasts for at least 4 months, the longer, the better. In the case of university students or working people a shorter period can be arranged. The current costs for accommodation in the separate volunteer apartment and for food is €30 per month; the amount should be transferred to the charity’s account in Germany. Costs related to the flight, visa, and pocket money are carried by the interns individually.

Future volunteers should participate in the biannually held introductory seminar – for international candidates the seminar is not compulsory. The seminar is held in German and informs about the nepali culture and what you should expect from your volunteering placement. However, if you are English-speaking you are welcome anyway to meet the founder of the organisation and former volunteers and ask questions. If you cannot arrange to come and want to get to know the people from the organisation beforehand, we can arrange a skype-session with a former volunteer.
